What the Scale Does When You Drink

Basically understand that alcohol can be extremely fun, but can also be a giant bag of dicks. Alcohol can impact your metabolism, can increase cortisol levels, can messes with estrogen and testosterone levels, and may even interfere with your ability to build muscle. Aging might also be a giant bag of dicks… Now that I’m in my 30’s, it seems like alcohol is a fast track to awful sleep and a serious case of depression/anxiety the next day. Anyone else? Or just me?

Anyway. Don’t bother to weigh yourself for a few days after drinking. Anecdotally: you’ll likely wake up lighter the next day after drinking (assuming you weren’t a dick with your food choices) due to dehydration, but then you’ll likely weigh in heavier the next few days. Give it a few days and all will likely be back to normal before you know it.

Due to the impact on both metabolism and liver detoxification pathways, you might be better off limiting alcohol consumption to one day per week (vs having 1-2 drinks a few times a week). Just a thought (:
