Publix Grocery Guide: Healthy Food Ideas

Publix grocery stores might as well be a synonym for “Heaven on Earth”, because hot damn do they make it easy to eat healthy and have so many amazing food and grocery options to choose from. I’m not saying Publix is life changing… but actually I am. If you end up on the east coast – go go go! 


What’s So Great About Publix?
Publix is an east coast grocery store that graces the states of Alabama, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee. I ’d heard SO many good things about them from fellow nutrition coaching friends — and I quickly understood why after going in Miami.⁣ 

Big and beautiful produce section. Aisle upon aisle of frozen fruits, veggies, and ready-made meals. Drool-worthy sushi. Tons of amazing options regardless of your preferred style of eating or desire to cook (or not cook) in the kitchen. Tons of dairy-free, gluten-free, and healthy (or not) options.⁣ Talk about a home run.

Stores are super clean, well-organized, and easy to navigate. Publix-brand products were AMAZING. I think oftentimes, we might associate “off brand” or store brand products as potentially being lower quality, but that most definitely was NOT the case with Publix.

 

One of My Most Favorite (Unexpected) Things about Publix

The Publix brand frozen vegetables. My gosh. Talk about doing the lord’s work. It’s common to see microwave / steam-able veggie bags with broccoli and cauliflower. Meanwhile Publix had frozen steamable zucchini, squash, and awesome blends like “Japanese Veggies”, “Roma Veggies,” “Italian Veggies,” and more.⁣

How I Plan Super Simple, Healthy, & Easy Meals While Traveling  

I usually visit friends in Miami every year, and I’m so grateful as Publix makes eating healthy a dreammmm.

I liveee by the “Rule of 3″s when grocery shopping and planning for the week. This simply means I get 3 proteins, 3 carbs, 3 fats, 3 fruits, and 3 vegetables. Then at meal time, I grab one food from each category and combine for a well-rounded and easy meal (:

 

Example Grocery List Using the “The Rule of 3”:

  • 3 proteins (eggs, chicken, beef)
  • 3 fats (olive oil, avocado, grass-fed butter)
  • 3 carbs (microwave rice, sweet potatoes, gluten-free oats
  • 3 fruits (blueberries, strawberries, raspberries)
  • 3 veggies (microwave bags of broccoli, green beans, and asparagus)


⁣”Let nutrition be easy” will forever be a hill I will die on. Don’t over-complicate it. And don’t forget to season the f*ck out of your food (because friends don’t let friends eat bland and boring food).
