Wegmans Grocery Guide: High-Carb Food Ideas

Wow. Y’know, I thought Texas had incredible grocery stores, but DANG does the East Coast kill it and put up a good fight when it comes to Publix and Wegmanss. I understand now why both grocery stores have such a cult following. It’s like walking into Heaven!⁣

This was my first time in Wegman’s, and I quickly understood the obsession and cult following after a few minutes of walking around.⁣ The store was MASSIVE and filled with so many aisles and options that it was almost overwhelming.⁣ Yassssss!

 

Who Loves Carbs? We Do We Do We Doooooo

Carbs are delicious, help fuel workouts, support our recovery from athletic endeavors, and can also help with digestion (via their fiber content). If you love being active and enjoy working out, it’s SO important to get enough carbs to support your exercise, lifestyle, and activity so you can look and feel your best.

Keep in mind that more active we are, the more carbs we likely need in a day

Misc Thoughts and Tips:

  • Fruits and veggies aren’t super high in carbs, but they are loaded with vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and more. If you’re able to get in a handful or serving of fruits and veggies at most meals during the day, you’d be crushing it.

 

  • If you’re working out a ton and aiming for higher carb totals, you likely can’t smash 200-400+ grams of carbs every day in only  “real whole food options” like rice and potatoes. Or let me rephrase – you could, but you’d be miserable. You’ll likely want a mix of slower digesting carbs (rice, potatoes, quinoa, whole grains, beans, lentils…) and faster digesting carbs (fruit, breakfast cereal, breads, bagels, waffles, etc).

 

  • During fall and winter, take advantage of all the amazing seasonal squashes available. Pretty much any squash, you can cut in half, pop in the oven for 20-30 minutes, and roast to greatness. Top with meat of your choice (such as ground beef), pasta sauce, veggies, and seasonings and you’ll be set! You get SO much volume (aka so much food) for relatively little carbs.⁣

 

  • No sweat if you’re gluten-free (like I am). There’s so many amazing gluten-free options available now for waffles, pancakes, bread, bagels, pasta, and more.
