First Hyrox race in the books in Boston with my husband- 1:10 babyy!!
Proud of yesterday’s race, but confirming that racing with my husband was like being strapped to a rocket ship and then holding on for dear life, hahaha!
If you’ve never heard of Hyrox, it’s a newer race that’s blown up in popularity over the years. You can complete it solo, with a partner, as a relay in a group of 4, and there’s also Pro divisions where the weights are much heavier.
Hyrox combines functional fitness with a whole lot of running. A Hyrox race consists of eight 1 kilometer runs and then you complete different stations between each sun, such as rowing, burpee broad jumps, wall balls, etc. The goal is to complete the entire race as quickly as possible.
Hyrox Race – For Time:
1 km run
1000m Ski Erg
1 km run
50m Sled Push @ 335 lbs
1 km run
50m Sled Pull @ 225 lbs
1 km run
80m Burpee Broad Jumps
1 km run
1000m Row Erg
1 km run
200m Farmer’s Carry @ 2 x 53 lb KB’s
1 km run
100m Sandbag Lunges @ 44 lbs
1 km run
100 Wall Balls @ 14 lbs
Racing Mixed Doubles as a petite female is no joke, as it’s actually the same weights as the Women’s Solo Pro division. I was a little nervous about sled push (which is 3x my bodyweight) and sled pull (which is 2x my body weight), but happy to report both went great on race day.
To get ready for our Hyrox race, I’ve been:
In terms of nutrition, I treated Hyrox race day just like I would a long run day. I carb loaded the day prior and got in 400+ grams of carbs. Since we didn’t race until 2pm in the afternoon, I was also able to get in tons protein and carbs prior to the race as well.
All in all, we had a great weekend in Boston and it was a total blast seeing friends and racing with my fave cheetah! I definitely want to do more Hyrox races in the future and can’t recommend them enough if you’re someone who loves running, lifting, and being competitive (:
